The Big Climb

What we are asking for and why?

In June 2018, Venessa Hunt and Renee Fittock will climb a physical mountain to help kids at home tackle their internal ones. They will embark to climb the world’s highest freestanding mountain – Kilimanjaro, to raise awareness for children who battle internal mountains far greater than we can imagine every day of their lives.

Through this incredible challenge, Venessa & Renee are raising funds for Mirabel, an UnLtd charity partner who assist children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use. Mirabel’s mission is to break the destructive cycle of addiction by supporting these young people who remain the most profoundly overlooked casualties of substance abuse in our society.

Located in Tanzania in the middle of Africa is Kilimanjaro, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders: a snow covered mountain on the equator, a huge green forest surrounded by dry savannah desert. Climbing Kilimanjaro is like walking from the equator to the North Pole in a week, providing dramatic changes in vegetation and animal life day by day. This symbolization of change supports the vision of Jane Rowe, the founder of Mirabel. In her work as a drug counsellor, Jane witnessed the devastating effects that drug use has on the children of drug users and took action to bring positive change to the lives of these vulnerable children.

Kilimanjaro inspires transformation. When you climb Kilimanjaro and stand on the roof of Africa, you see the world a different way. What seemed impossible in your life might just be doable. The mountain top is a place for vision, inspiration, and a new beginning – and that’s what we plan to bring to the kids that need it the most.

Please support Venessa and Renee in their mission to help Mirabel break the cycle of addition and donate generously.

• $1,200 will support a child through Mirabel’s program for an entire year
• $5,000 will provide tutoring for 10 children for a term
• $10,000 will fund a family camp for 50 children and carers
• $20,000 will fund a Break The Cycle program with therapeutic groups and camp for 50 children
