We need your help!
As a response to the Covid19 pandemic, Reconciliation Tasmania is bringing forward plans to establish an advisory Nuntyemitick tunapri Yarning Circle, or cultural council.
In developing the plan for Nuntyemitick (to come together) tunapri (to know) RT has worked with members of the Aboriginal community to ensure the Circle is Aboriginal-led and on Aboriginal terms. The first Yarning Circle will comprise of 9 Aboriginal Tasmanians, from diverse backgrounds, who will meet 3 times a year, over 2 years, in a central Tasmanian location.
Initially, the Yarning Circle's roles will be to determine how best Aboriginal Tasmanians can re-connect and re-build from the pandemic, and into the longer-term it will provide advice and guidance to RT on Aboriginal aspirations and goals, so that reconciliation actions in Tasmania directly benefit Aboriginal Tasmanians.
RT has applied for a Tasmanian Community Fund grant that, if successful, will partially help get the Yarning Circle underway. To meet the shortfall, RT is calling on you, your family, friends and colleagues to pitch in and help establish the Yarning Circle, so that it can begin its work to help all Tasmanians come together.
