Auckland City Mission provides unique and specialised health and social services to thousands of marginalised Aucklanders each year. These services include Calder Health Centre, Crisis Care & Community Services, Distribution Services, Elder Persons Service, Homeless Services and Social Detoxification Service. The Mission also provides food in a number of ways - it’s Crisis Care and Community Support Services groups deliver practical support to thousands of individuals and families in desperate need by providing emergency food parcels and essential household items. On average, families visiting the Mission for emergency food have $21.94 to spend per person per week on groceries - that’s $3.13 per day. Food insecurity can be the deciding factor that leads an individual or family to seek the Mission’s support. While the aim is to work with people to find long term solutions to the deeper issues they face, sometimes an emergency food parcel alone provides the means for a family to get back on their feet.
