Assistance Dogs Australia trains Labradors and Golden Retrievers to help people living with disabilities throughout Australia. Founded in 1996, Assistance Dogs Australia trains and places unique dogs with Australians in unique situations. We currently train dogs that specialise in support for people with a physical disability, autism or PTSD. As well as providing a range of services to these individuals and their families.
Our free-to-client assistance dogs provide Independence, self-esteem, improved health and relationships to individuals and families – resulting in stronger and more successful communities.
Every Assistance Dog undergoes tailored training to meet the individual needs of their new owner. We support people living with physical disabilities, autism, post-traumatic stress, as well as schools and care facilities.
It can take up to two years and costs over $40,000 to train each dog. Assistance Dogs are placed completely free of charge with their new owner, providing life-changing support for up to 10 years.
