The RSPCA is an independent, non-government community-based charity with a mission is to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.
Each year in Australia the RSPCA accepts around 150,000 injured, homeless and unwanted animals from the public and investigates more than 50,000 complaints of animal cruelty and neglect. The RSPCA also advocates for humane treatment of farm animals, wildlife and animals used in research and in sport and entertainment.
The RSPCA is Australia’s leading and most trusted animal welfare organisation, with RSPCA Australia, the federal body, having member Societies operating in every state and territory of Australia;
State and territory RSPCA member Societies are responsible for the operation of animal shelters, adoption centres, veterinary clinics, Inspectorate services, as well as community education programs and advocacy on state based laws, regulations and standards which improve animal welfare.
RSPCA Australia is the national body of the RSPCA. Its areas of work include improving legislation and standards of animal welfare, government and industry liaison, promoting high-quality science, community education, national marketing and partnerships, and promoting the development of more humane farming systems.
Donations made to RSPCA Australia are distributed out to the state and territory RSPCA member Societies unless specifically directed by the donor to retain the funds for the national body.
