The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Western Australia (RSPCA WA) was established 120 years ago and is the state’s oldest, largest and leading animal welfare charity.
RSPCA WA’s aim is to protect all animals from cruelty by actively promoting public awareness about animal welfare and advocating for improvements in the way people relate to animals. We work with governments, community and farming groups, helping animals by showing people how.
Our RSPCA Inspectors enforce the Animal Welfare Act 2002 protecting animals from cruelty, dealing with more than 16,000 cruelty complaints every year, prosecuting offenders and rescuing animals from dangerous situations. All our staff and volunteers help to prevent cruelty by working with people of all ages, especially children and young people, to promote the value and meaning of animals in our lives.
On any given day of the year, there are more than 200 animals in the care of RSPCA WA and we’re helping to care for many more in the community.
RSPCA WA requires $9 million annually to support our animal care centre, programs and services including the 24 hour cruelty complaint line and the work of our Inspectors. As a non-government, community based charity, we receive less than 4% of funding from the government and rely on donations, bequests, sponsorships and volunteering from West Australians, just like you.
We are achieving a lot but there is always more to be done.
