Ronald McDonald House Parkville is one of 15 Ronald McDonald Houses around Australia. Established in 1986, it is one of the largest Houses in Australia. Parkville accommodates up to 51 families each night of the year. Since opening its doors the House has provided a ‘home away from home’ for almost 13,000 families and is now accommodating approximately 40,000 nightly guests each year.
Our House is an ideal place for families to be together, offering the comforts of home during one of the most critical times in their lives. The benefits to families who stay with us are that they don’t have to repeatedly travel long distances, sleep in waiting rooms, in chairs on wards, in their car or pay for expensive hotel rooms.
Located close to the Royal Children’s Hospital, which admits Australia's most complex paediatric patients, the close proximity of the House offers peace of mind for families. Parents know they are not far from their child’s bedside when away from the ward. The location also allows ill children to reside at the House with their parents and siblings if they are well enough and go to the hospital for daily treatment.
The House is a vital support service for so many families in need, offering comfort, warmth and enabling friendships to be formed as families share a similarly challenging journey. The House is a place where everyone understands the importance of small ‘wins’ and the celebrations that come with these along with the empathy and outpouring of love when facing immense sadness in their lives.
It is thanks to the generosity of people like you that our facility in Parkville is able to keep its doors open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Please assist us in continuing to provide this crucial service to Australian families.
