Hi everyone,
Ingrid and I were so moved by the trip to Cambodia last year and the amazing work that AFESIP and Project Futures is doing, that Ingrid is going back again this July! This time with Martin.
Last year when we visited AFESIP we met girls as young as 3 who have been trafficked. Some of the girls are HIV positive. It broke our hearts. Now, in the centre, they have a little girl as young as 15 months.
It’s hard to imagine. So we would like to raise money for this great cause again.
It won’t be as full on as last year: everyone just form a table (or I can make a table for you) and bring your own food and drink. We’ll have a couple of raffle prizes and I promise to ask more royalty and Hollywood questions. I am not promising Martin will do a jig again!!
It’s on 15 June at our house. We will have a marquis on the back lawn, lighting and heating. So you will be able to see and you should be warm!!
Each ticket is $25/person. The tickets are the only fundraising aspect of the evening, apart from a small raffle. The reason we chose $25 is that this is the cost of a bike in Cambodia. Bikes are significant because:
- A bike offers a child independent and consistent access to education, breaking the intergenerational cycle of trafficking.
- When a child attends school they have access to a 'safe' adult to disclose their concerns, to seek assistance if at risk and to ensure someone is aware of the child's movements and attendance to indicate any concerns at home. Further, they are physically off the street, reducing risks of trafficking.
- When attending school a child has a sense of belonging, receives a bowl of rice to fill their tummy and has a future filled with hope and opportunities for employment.
Every ticket bought is tax deductible.
To buy a ticket, just purchase via the red “purchase” button.
If you can’t come(but we really hope you can) you can still make a donation (no pressure though) by purchasing a ticket and then commenting that you won’t be able to make it.
Thanks everyone, and we hope to see you on the night.
Cheers,
Julie and Ingrid
