What's the cost of a home? In rural areas of Cambodia's Siem Reap, that cost is just US$3,000. But the difference it can make to the life of a family living in poverty is immeasurable.
A simple, sturdy Khmer-style wooden house provides shelter and security for Cambodian families living in need. Poor education, lack of skills and a shortage of job opportunities mean many rural Cambodians are still living in extreme poverty with inadequate shelter.
Volunteer Building Cambodia run volunteer programs which involve a week of building a house to replace the fragile structures that offer little protection from the elements. This not only provides a home for families living in poverty - improved living conditions change lives, through better sanitation, increased security, better sleeping arrangements and healthier living. Children in secure homes are less likely to get sick and more likely to attend school.
Your donation will directly help improve the living conditions of rural Cambodians:
•US$3000 is all it costs to fund a house build, and the basic human right of a secure shelter for a family.
•US$320 donation pays for a toilet, improving hygiene and sanitation and reducing health risks.
•US$250 pays for a well, ensuring a family, or sometimes a number of families, have access to clean drinking water.
•US$260 pays for solar power to the home, powering 3 lights, 1 fan and 1 phone charger
No matter how large or small, your generosity makes a difference.
Volunteers from IFM Investors will be travelling to Cambodia in June and October 2019, with each groups helping Volunteer Building Cambodia build a home for a local Cambodian family living in need.
IFM Investors is funding the cost of the house build, and you can also contribute and help further the impact on the family and local community by donating to this fundraiser for Volunteer Building Cambodia. We would love to extend our contribution and make these houses a home:
• The first US$820 will provide a Toilet, Water Well and Solar Power for House 1 (June)
• The next US$820 will provide a Toilet, Water Well and Solar Power for House 2 (October)
Please help us make these houses into a home for the families we are supporting!
Additional donations can also contribute to providing these amenities to other homes in the community and supplies for Volunteer Building Cambodia's Community Centre. Here, language lessons are offered to local children and to adults who may never have had the opportunity to be educated, thus adding to their vulnerability.
