At the 65 Roses Month Breakfast you will hear Gerry Kandelaars, MP Ret'd, speak about the importance of Genetic Carrier Screening for recessive genetic conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis and Vickie Kaminski CEO, SA Health speak about the challenge of Managing Change at through Transforming Health.
Your attendance supports Cystic Fibrosis SA to achieve our vision of Lives Unaffected by CF.
Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life limiting genetically inherited condition affecting Australians with over 300 people in SA living with CF. 1 in 25 of us are carriers of the CF gene and may have passed that gene to our children. A Child with CF is born every 4 or so days in Australia, between 6 and 8 children with CF are born each year in SA. More people with CF are living into adulthood but the condition does not become easier to manage and life expectancy is limited to less than 40 years.
A faulty Cystic Fibrosis gene causes a build up of mucus in the lungs and digestive system making it difficult to breathe and absorb nutrients. People with CF face a daily battle to stay well and consume up to 60 tablets a day.
CFSA provides support services, education and advocacy for people with CF and their families and carers.
