Bushfire Recovery Operations on Kangaroo Island, SA
Operation Turner
On 20 December 2019, bushfires began on Kangaroo Island (KI) in South Australia. The fires continued in the region for several weeks resulting in the loss of two lives as well as many homes, farms, businesses and countless livestock and over 210,000 hectares of land.
As soon as it was safe to do so, Disaster Relief Australia (then Team Rubicon Australia) deployed volunteers to the area, helping over 33 families. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, in late March 2020 the Operation, known as Operation Tiger, was halted.
Working with the KI Mayor, Recovery SA and the Minderoo Firefund, Disaster Relief Australia volunteers are being redeployed during November and December 2020 to finish what was started.
We will be assisting over 20 families in debris removal, land clearing and assisting them in their recovery efforts which are still underway before this summer's extreme weather hits!
This is a race against time as the South Australia bushfire season is due to start in only a few weeks time, and we are calling on your support to help us rebuild the lives of our fellow Australians.
Dollar handles are examples of how your donation will support our volunteers on the ground, however any amount will help assist communities such as those on KI in recovering from disasters such as those experienced around the country every bushfire season.
Please show your support in any way that you can and don't forget to follow us on social media for the latest updates on all our operations.
