Aspirations focuses on Year 11 students, equipping them with the skills required for further study, employment and the modern workplace. It aims to encourage the completion of school and raise an awareness of different career pathways.
Students from disadvantaged communities often have limited access to professional role models and work and networking opportunities. Their choices beyond school – and whether or not they will continue with school at all – are not only influenced by a limited understanding of their own strengths and skills, but also compounded by a lack of knowledge and awareness of the different pathways and career options available beyond their local community.
As a mentor, you will work with small groups of students during four facilitated workshops which focus on communication skills, interview techniques and building confidence. Held at your place of work and spaced over one to two terms, each two-hour session can easily be integrated into your working day, with the exception of the one and a half-hour program launch, which takes place at the school.
