GOALS is a structured and facilitated mentoring program designed to widen the life choices and aspirations of disadvantaged students in Year 9 (approx.14 years old.)
Students from disadvantaged areas often have little opportunity to network outside their immediate community and are often lacking in professional role models who can encourage a variety of career options and study pathways. This limited social network combined with financial constraints can result in a higher likelihood of leaving school early.
The focus of GOALS is to help students build their confidence, learn about the importance of setting goals and to assist them in continuing their education to Year 12 and beyond.
As a GOALS mentor, you will be gender-matched with a student from Kingsgrove North High. You will act as an important role model and you will attend each of the sessions unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Accompanied by teachers, students will meet in a group context to ensure compliance with the child protection legislation. You must adhere to ABCN's Rules of Engagement and you must have a current NSW Working with Children check.
