What I am asking for and why

Wendy Meadowcroft and Maree McCulley have team up together to run the Bruny Island Ultra on the 1st December 2018 for Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania, this race is 64km. Wendy and Maree will be running 32km each from Dennis Point to the Bruny Lighthouse. This race will have a lot of hills and gravel roads and we will be pushing ourselves to the ultimate limits to achieve this.

What is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder and primarily affects the lungs and digestive system because of a malfunction in the exocrine system, responsible for producing saliva, sweat, tears and mucus. This also means you are consistently susceptible to further lung infections as well as limiting the ability to breathe.

Lung Failure is the major cause of death with CF.

To quote a Cystic Fibrosis suffer
"It's like sucking throw a straw, not matter how hard you try; you can't get any air into your lungs".

A CF suffer has a daily routine that includes;

  1. Using Nebuliser twice day, and

  2. Taking a number of, in some cases up to 40, tablets every day. Some of these tablets are not on the Prescription Benefits Scheme.

Most CF suffers also have regular hospital visits.

The life expectation for CF suffers is 40 years of age.

We are fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania because of the work they do to in help CF suffers, and their families.
