Support for this exciting project!
Sydney Philharmonia Choirs is committed to supporting Australian composers by commissioning and performing at least one new work per year.
Encouraging our musicians by performing and recording new Australian work is not only hugely exciting but also of national importance.
We need to support our composers and preserve their compositions so that future generations will be able to hear wonderful Australian music from today.
With your support in 2016 we will commission an exquisitely beautiful new choral work 'Wonders' by Carl Vine AO, an eminent Australian composer of contemporary classical music. The piece draws inspiration from a beautiful short poem written in 1855 by Walt Whitman, also called 'Wonders'.
• The piece will be performed in September 2016 at the Sydney Opera House by no less than 400 choristers iin the Concert Hall. They will be accompanied by acclaimed soprano Penelope Mills, Chris Hillier - one of Australia's finest baritone's and the talented Sydney Youth Orchestra.
• The recording will be available digitally with an option to produce CDs.
• ABC Classics have expressed interest in assisting us to distribute and promote the finished work.
• To accompany the concert and with the newly commissioned work as inspiration, we will hold a singing masterclass at the Opera House open to everyone.
I urge you to support beautiful voices, wonderful singing, Australian composers and the future of arts and culture in Australia!
