The suburb of Miller in NSW is located in a low socio-economic area and families have limited access to support services. Many families struggle to cope due to unemployment and poverty, isolation due to language and cultural barriers, limited parenting skills, and domestic violence and family dysfunction. Few preschools in the area cater for children with disabilities and services are limited. Mission Australia's Miller Community Preschools provides a high quality childcare and education program that promotes inclusion for all children, regardless of their background or ability.
Mission Australia needs to urgently raise $89,000 to give children at Miller Community Preschool the tools they need to learn and achieve their full potential. These include an iPod touch for music time, art and craft supplies, iPads to access age appropriate apps, sensory equipment to increase the inclusion of children with disabilities, a wonder wall for children with disabilities to access visual communications and new tables and chairs in the classrooms. We would also like to refurbish the playground and install new play equipment to give children a safe and secure environment to play in.
