From January 7th-10th, 2016, Dawn, Kevin and a group of equally crazy Can Too supporters will be running the 4-day Dopey Challenge through Florida's Disney World. Four days? Indeed....FOUR.
Day 1: 5km
Day 2: 10km
Day 3: 21.1km (a half marathon)
Day 4: 42.2km (full marathon)
Worst part? The 2.30am alarm call each day...ouch!
For 6 months now, we've been running, running, running...getting used to running for several days back to back, on tired legs, with yesterday's blisters.
Why? Because we can. We are fortunate to be fit and healthy and able to say 'I can do that, that sounds like fun!'.
For the thousands of cancer suffers in the world, they can't make that decision. They would give anything to be able to get out and run for 78.3km. My latest blisters - whilst at times impressive - are nowhere near as impressive as the challenges faced every day by people and their families living with cancer.
Please help me give me back and support Can Too in funding researchers to find a cure for cancer.
Can Too is a health promotion organisation that engages and inspires individuals and the community to achieve personal health, wellbeing and altruistic goals. Beginners and experienced athletes alike are given professional coaching as part of a team to run or swim in endurance events- including 10km, half-marathon and marathon runs; as well as ocean swims and triathlons.
Whilst I am not training with Can Too for this program, I am nonetheless wanting to raise valuable funds to go towards innovation in the prevention, care and control of cancer. In 2015, the Can Too community funded 14 early career researchers through Cure Cancer Australia. Since Can Too began in April 2005, they have trained over 10,500 people to swimming and running glory and raised over $15 million for Cure Cancer Australia and Cancer Council NSW.
Thank you for supporting me and helping me to support these awesome young researchers, who one day will find a cure for the Big C which takes too many of the people we all love too soon.
Donate! No sum is too small...or too big! That charitable donating you meant to do more of in 2015 - now's your chance!
