Hi everyone
I am BACK! Yep - back into the running, swimming and cycling. 🏃 🏊 🚴 “What?” - I hear you say. "Didn’t you just have a hip replacement?" Yes I did. 12 weeks ago! Oh the miracles of modern medical technology and the need to keep us demanding, more mature, active people in the game…….
I received so, so many emails from you all when I announced back in August that I needed to adjust my 2015 goals and had undergone surgery. I was overwhelmed with your wishes, support and love and once more, realised what an amazing group of family and friends I have as the ‘wind beneath my wings’. I am truly grateful to have heard from so many of you. THANK YOU from my heart.
As of now, I can run 10km’s, cycle 25km’s and swim 1km (although not together!) and the new hip is performing well. 'What comes next?” I hear you ask. Because you knew, you just knew that I was going to have to start setting goals right? Of course you did. 😀
So I have signed up for the NSW Sprint Triathlon Series with races scheduled below. A Sprint Triathlon is 750m swim, 20km bike and a 5km run……………..
Race #1 Sunday 13 December 2015 - Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Kurnell
Race #2 Sunday 17 January 2016 - Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Kurnell
Race #3 Sunday 7 February 2016 - Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Kurnell
Race #4 Sunday 20 March 2016 - Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Kurnell
This means I will get one triathlon done in 2015 - YAY! - which is a really big goal for me and the new hip, but one I feel okay about striving for it.
In November, I am going back into Can Too training for an Olympic Triathlon on March 06, 2016 https://www.cantoo.org.au/programs/view/97/olympic-triathlon-2016 Some of you will remember that this triathlon was the one I did on my 60th birthday last year, leading to my Half Ironman dream and achievement 😊 The Olympic distance is 1.5km swim, 40km bike and a 10 km run and I am confident I can reach this by next March…
Along the way, I am going to continue raising funds for Can Too - this wonderful organisation that focuses on health and wellbeing for all people, helping them to run, swim or do a triathlon and in return they raise funds for young cancer researchers - across ALL cancers. We all have been touched by cancer in some way. For me, losing my best friend from breast cancer when we were 47 years old changed me in so many, many ways, as well as focusing me firmly on my own health. For you it will be your own story, and there are many. Too many.
I am this active and have these goals because I can and so many others cannot. I also unashamedly ask you all - my amazing support group - to help me raise funds. This is not for me, this is for all of us - our children, our families, our friends and our colleagues. We need to beat ALL cancer.
Please, please continue to support me and if you can find it in your heart to donate and continue to help me raise funds for Can Too, I will be so very grateful. No amount is too small or too large!
Emails, words, hugs and all other ways of support also welcome :)
